Meet New Village School Alumni: Oliver Devito, Class of 2020 ~ pictured here with his 11 year old brother, Remi, on vacation in Italy this past summer.
"Sitting in the apple tree, devouring freshly picked apples, is one of my most cherished memories from my time at NVS."
Since graduating from NVS, Oliver’s path has been full of exploration and growth. After attending Tamalpais High School, he is now a freshman at UC Berkeley, where he plans to apply to the Haas School of Business at the end of his sophomore year. He’s still exploring his options for after graduation but is excited about the possibilities ahead.
Outside of academics, Oliver’s passions include playing guitar, surfing, skiing, weightlifting, and pickup sports with friends. These hobbies reflect his active and adventurous spirit, cultivated during his time at NVS.
"I look back fondly on all the adventures we took, during class trips, classroom without walls, and recess at MLK Park."
Some of Oliver’s most memorable experiences include the 7th-grade class trip to Europe and North Africa and his 8th-grade formal presentation, where he explored the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence. As part of this project, he interviewed one of Facebook's head AI research managers, sparking a deep interest in the topic.
"NVS imparted me with a level of care for so many important things in life—love, community, nature, and adventure—that I wouldn’t have developed at a more traditional school."
Oliver credits NVS for inspiring his love of travel and exploration while equipping him with essential life skills. The school’s unique approach to learning instilled in him a deep sense of independence and a lifelong appreciation for the world’s beauty and complexity.
